What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport (similar to a racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid 1960s as a children’s backyard pastime.
The Greenville Area Community Center Pickleball Courts are free and open to the public for drop in use during regular park hours (dawn to dusk). In addition to the City of Greenville Park Ordinance (click here), the following rules will be enforced at the Pickleball Courts:
- Court use is limited to one hour when players are waiting
- Events scheduled by the Recreation Department have priority over open play
- Tournaments & Fee based lessons must be scheduled through the Recreation Department
- No animals, in-Line skates, bicycles, or skateboards
- Footwear with non-marking soles only
